How marking works in practice
Teachers open their class list with student photos. Everyone is marked present by default, so the teacher changes only the exceptions and saves. Schools usually use daily attendance, while colleges and senior classes can switch to period-wise attendance that follows the published timetable. Leave applications from parents or students can be approved against the same record, so an approved leave is not counted as an unexplained absence.
